Jade-embellished paktong-cased Yixing teapot

Daoguang (1821-1851) Period
Of mallow section in Yixing clay, cased in paktong and embellished to the handle and lid finial with pale celadon coloured jade, inscribed with a poem and subscription to one side reading:
‘Below a bright moon boils the scented brew; Green clouds spring forth most rich in dew. Engraved by Wanquan’
The other side with incised decoration of bamboo. The interior of the Yixing pot stamped ‘Made by Fan Shuzeng’. 9.5cm high, 16.5cm wide.

Wanquan was the courtesy name of celebrated Yixing artist Jiang Delin who was active from the Daoguang Period (1821-1851) through to the end of the Tongzhi Period (1861-75). Fan Shuzeng is known to have been active between the late Qianlong Period (1735-1796) to the end of the Daoguang Period, thus indicating a Daoguang dating. Fan Shuzeng was a very celebrated Yixing artist, particularly known for his speciality of crafting paktong-cased jade-embellished Yixing teapots, the making of which is said to have died with him.
