Large huamu dish
China
Ming (1368-1644) or Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), c. 17th century
Turned from an exceptional piece of huamu (burl-wood) with delicately everted rim, with evenly spaced burl knots throughout, and with a rich glowing patina, the sides with a subtle horizontal step from the upper register to the lower, a feature which, together with the character of the burl, sets this dish apart from lesser examples. 5.2cm high, 23.8cm diameter.
Provenance: Curtis Evarts Collection; Jason Sprague Collection
